Six-Armed Mahakala in Himalayan Thangka Painting

A thangka is a painted scroll made to hang in a shrine or on a wall. Mahakala is one of the protector figures most often painted on these scrolls. The six-armed form shows a fierce face, a crown of skulls, and a different object in each hand. Painters use those arms so the figure can be recognized in a single picture.

The thangkas in this shop are wall pieces: a dark ground, dense color, and a border that can be framed or hung from a rod. Keep a scroll out of direct sun and damp air, and dust it with a soft dry cloth.
